Prime Minister Scott Morrison has weighed in on an ongoing battle for the families of four children killed by a drunk driver in Sydney last year, who have had their proposal for a memorial to their deaths rejected.

Antony, Angelina and Sienna Abdallah, and their cousin Veronique Sakr, were killed last February when a drunk driver ploughed into a group of seven children as they walked to buy ice cream in Oatlands.

The families had proposed a memorial to the children be constructed at Oatlands Golf Club, near where they had died.

But earlier this year, the club rejected the proposal, saying the memorial was too big.

At the time, Veronique's mother Bridget Sakr said the rejection "eats into my soul".

The club at the time said it had discussed plans with the families for a "modest memorial consisting of four small memorial stones, set in a garden."

But it said all the concepts submitted by Parramatta Council on behalf of the family had been "well outside the scale of what had been communicated as appropriate".

Mr Morrison was asked about the face-off during a press conference today, after reports in the Daily Telegraph claimed the club was seeking approval for a 193-residence apartment development opposite the proposed memorial site.

"I think their simple, honest, humble request that they should be able to memorialise their children that were taken from them is entirely reasonable," Mr Morrison said.

"I would certainly hope that a fair outcome can be achieved here for them."

He said he had been in contact with the families, as had NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet, to see what could be done.

Father Danny Abdallah spoke to Ben Fordham on 2GB this morning, after the Daily Telegraph report was published.

"I pleaded [for] a members' vote for a memorial in honour of my children, and they basically said … 'we're not doing that,'" Mr Abdallah said.

"Now they're asking the members to vote for 193 apartments."

The driver involved in the crash, Samuel Davidson, earlier this year apologised to the families.

A report following the incident found he was travelling up to 133km/h in a 50km/h zone and was moving about 111km/h at the time of impact.

Davidson pleaded guilty to four counts of manslaughter in April and was later sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in jail.

His maximum sentence was set at 28 years.
