“Jay and I actually went on a couple of dates, like, months and months and months ago,” the Hills alum revealed. “But then I was, like, it’s not there for me anymore.”
Although the entire divorce experience has been “such a roller-coaster” for Cavallari, going out with her estranged husband, 38, helped her realize she needed to move on.
“The thing with Jay is, we aren’t getting our divorce because of love lost, which made it really challenging because we were crazy about each other,” she noted. “And so I just decided I didn’t want to be in a toxic relationship anymore and I had to break it off.”

Following two broken Bachelor Nation engagements, Becca Kufrin was hesitant to leave Bachelor in Paradise in a relationship. But now, the former Bachelorette is more confident than ever that she found The One in Thomas Jacobs.
“I’m gonna probably hate myself for actually admitting this to anyone, but I called my mom — and even though I was engaged twice in the past — I was like, ‘Mom, I think I want to marry this guy,’” the 31-year-old former publicist said on the “Talking It Out With Bachelor Nation” podcast on Thursday, October 14, during a joint interview with Thomas. “It’s the first time I’ve ever actually said that out loud.”
Fans met Becca on Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor in 2018. While he proposed to the Minnesota native during the finale, he ended their relationship while the show was airing because he still had feelings for runner-up Lauren Burnham, whom he would later marry and welcome three kids. Becca, for her part, was named the season 14 Bachelorette and got engaged to Garrett Yrigoyen. They called it quits during the summer of 2020 after two years together.

Becca subsequently became the first former franchise lead to join the cast of Bachelor in Paradise, a decision that took a lot of convincing from producers.
“It wasn’t on my radar. They have asked me for probably a couple of weeks, and I kept saying no and at first, I thought it was a joke,” she told Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo. “I was like, ‘Haha, that’s funny.’ It kind of transpired because two of my best friends, who work on the show, who also weren’t supposed to be working on the season, ended up getting roped in and they were like, ‘Will you just come? It’ll be fun.’ and I’m like, ‘Look, if I’m gonna go, I have a lot of demands here.’ And I basically was like, here’s the list of everything I want — Minno on the beach, like, the most random extreme things. I want daily shrimp tacos, whatever I can get.’ I’m gonna, like, try to finagle a pretty decent contract here. … I asked for a trip back to Thailand, I think, that obviously was not accepted. But yeah, I think it was probably two days before — two or three days — before I actually went down there that I signed everything.”
Becca revealed that she was brought to the beach five days into filming. While it took a beat for her to connect with Thomas, 29, they soon became inseparable. During the October finale, however, she called things off after deciding she didn’t know the Bachelorette season 17 alum well enough. After he cried and begged her to have faith in their relationship, she wondered if she made a mistake.

“I never heard [that] from a guy before,” Becca told the cameras. “I never heard it from the last two guys I was engaged to, that’s for sure.”
The twosome later reunited off camera and explained what went down during their joint “Talking It Out” interview. Scroll through for everything we learned from Thomas and Becca:

It Wasn’t Love at First Sight
“We talked for maybe five minutes and at the end of the conversation he said something along the lines of … he called me a declined credit card,” Becca recalled of meeting Thomas for the first time, noting that he didn’t want to go sit on a daybed with her because he thought Tammy Ly was close by. “He was, like, trying to flirt and be kind of smooth and funny and it just came out wrong.”
While Thomas thinks Becca misinterpreted his comment, she added, “I talked so much s—t about him in my interviews that first night.”

Separating Thomas From Katie’s Season of ’The Bachelorette’
While Thomas was given a villain edit on Katie Thurston’s season as the other contestants accused him of being on the show to be the next Bachelor, Becca hadn’t watched the episodes yet.
“I had only seen, I think, the first two episodes of Katie’s season — it was before things got really bad for him,” she explained. “It was kind of like this weird mind [f—k] if you will because I was getting to know him for him on that beach and seeing how he interacted with everyone and seeing how everyone got along really well. And then when I would watch the show, I’d be like, ‘This isn’t what I’m seeing, what’s going on here?’ It was really, it was, like, this weird warp in my mind.”

Explaining Her Arie, Garrett Shade
“The world saw how my relationship with Arie unfolded and how that ended, which was really tough, but there wasn’t much dialogue there other than him ending things on TV and that was kind of it,” Becca said. “And then in my past relationship with Garrett, obviously, that breakup was a lot more private, but I never felt like those two men who — you know, we had promised our lives to each other at one point, I had the ring. We were committed for a short amount of time, but I never felt like they were all in, like, ready to fight. And for both of those breakups, there wasn’t much dialogue or passion, it was more so it just ended in the way that it did.”

Why Becca and Thomas Broke Up
When asked why Becca pulled the plug on their romance on the show, she noted, “We had a great time together and I would say it was smooth sailing for those weeks that we spent on the beach together, which was incredible to start a relationship, but for me, to leave a third time with somebody I really had to know who I would be leaving with. … I was like, I see this positive fun-loving, supportive great guy, but to make a relationship, there’s going to be hard times and I wanted to see how he would get through adversity or handle any hiccup in the road, and I didn’t get to see that on my time really in Paradise.”

Cash and Ari race to save them – but will they be too late? We pick up the action with Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) missing and more clues pointing to her as the Salt poison-gas attacker.
“We never really got into the nitty-gritty of, like, ‘What are we?’ on the beach, like, how serious it actually was until that last day,” Becca explained. “So it was in those moments where I saw how committed he actually was to being in this relationship and wanting to truly fight for it where it was a new experience for me and I was like, ‘That’s really special.’ And if he’s willing to do that then I’m willing to do that too. We came back and had to explore that on our own away from the cameras but in that moment, I think that was game-changing for me because I have really never had somebody fight, I would say, like, tooth and nail to want to keep a relationship with me.”
“I was mad, I was hurt,” Thomas admitted, noting he had a feeling that things weren’t really over. “When she first texted me, she started off, ‘I know I’m probably the last person you want to hear from right now.’ And it couldn’t be further from the truth, that’s the one text I was waiting to hear. That’s the one person I wanted to see. That’s the one person I wanted to hold. … [The breakup] showed us that we experienced something and it was taken away from us for a moment.”

How They Got Back Together
Becca traveled to San Diego and the duo “picked up right where we left off,” she said. “We chatted until, like, three or four in the morning some nights and just talked about any and everything. The second I saw him — because I flew back to L.A. and then drove down to San Diego — I think right away he picked me up and kissed me and then we just had unlimited time to explore what this could be.”
-
Proposal Plans
While she claimed that Thomas suggested she propose to him, he revealed he has “multiple text messages” asking Becca about a ring.
“It’s something we’ve talked about,” he concluded. “I mean, I don’t want to spend my life with anybody else.”

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler’s Messy Split: Everything We Know
Read article “I come from divorced parents and I was, like, I didn’t want my kids growing up thinking this is a good relationship,” the Uncommon James founder explained. “I got to see my mom remarried and be in a good relationship, so I knew what one was. I wanted my kids to see me happy.”
Ending the relationship also taught Cavallari, who was briefly linked to Chase Rice and Jeff Dye post-split, something important as she transitioned back into the dating scene.
“There’s a very specific type of guy that I’ve been attracting lately. A narcissist,” she added. “So I’m, like, ‘OK I am breaking this f–king cycle. What is this?'”
Cavallari and Cutler announced their divorce in April 2020 via Instagram: “We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart.”
On-Again, Off-Again Celebrity Couples

“It’s hard as hell really,” the former Chicago Bears quarterback said on his podcast, “Uncut With Jay Cutler,” in August. “Meeting people is hard. I think finding out what people really want from you, I think that’s probably an issue.”
The former football player, who was recently linked to Jana Kramer, explained that being a father has shifted his priorities when it comes to finding someone to bring into his life.
“I’m at a different phase of my life now with kids,” he said at the time. “It isn’t just a purely selfish play by my part.”
