Mohammed VI is committed to "finding a way out of the current situation and promoting rapprochement and understanding between the two peoples".

Rabat, which controls almost 80 % of this territory, advocates an autonomy plan under its sovereignty. The Polisario claims a self -determination referendum under the aegis of the UN.
