The creative team behind the Game Of Thrones prequel series House Of The Dragon has been shaken up with the departure of executive producer Jocelyn Diaz.

Deadline reported on Sunday that Diaz will not be returning for the hit series' second season.

Diaz's departure comes after executive producer — and co-showrunner — Miguel Sapochnik also departed the series.

According to sources who spoke with the publication, Diaz — who is described as a non-writing executive producer — only had a one-year contract with an option to stay for a second season, but that is no longer being exercised.

Ron Schmidt, another executive producer on the series, previously left the series with little fanfare.

It's unclear why the producers on the series have been engaged in a game of musical chairs, and feedback for the prequel series has so far been largely positive.

Critics have mostly praised the show so far, and its viewership is strong for a premium cable series, which wouldn't suggest a need to shakeup the formula.

According to Variety, House Of The Dragon is now averaging 29 million viewers per episode as of episode five, which also saw an impressive three percent increase from the previous week.

The dark fantasy series, which is set 172 years prior to the events of Game Of Thrones, recently had a major time jump.

The action shifted a full decade, necessitating a newer crop of older actor to replace younger versions of the characters.

Emma D'Arcy has now taken over the part of Princess Rhaenyra from Milly Alcock, while Ready Player One star Olivia Cooke is replacing Emily Carey as Alicent Hightower.
