St George Illawarra Dragons coach Paul McGregor has responded to ongoing criticism and pressure on his future at the club as the Red V look to keep slim finals hopes alive on Friday night against the Panthers.

The Dragons have won just six games this season and were on the end of an embarrassing 36-14 loss at the hands of the Raiders on Sunday night, all but ending their season.

McGregor spoke to the media on Thursday and said that there is still a belief within the club that they can make the finals, and is happy to cop the blame for recent performances.

Jean Paul Gaultier Is So In Love With Madonna, He Proposed 3 Times

Jean Paul Gaultier Is So In Love With Madonna, He Proposed 3 Times Jean Paul Gaultier has been crafting looks for Madonna since the 1980s, but their relationship would’ve taken a much deeper, more personal turn if he’d had his way. In a Wednesday interview with London’s “This Morning,” the French designer revealed that he was “kind of” in love with Madonna throughout their professional collaboration. “I asked her three times if [she] wanted to marry me,” Gaultier, who identifies as gay, said. Turns out, the Queen of Pop wasn’t so smitten. “She said no,” Gaultier quipped. © Gie Knaeps via Getty Images Madonna wore Jean Paul Gaultier on her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour.

“I don’t take any of that personal, if they’re talking about me it means they are leaving the players alone which is a good thing,” he said.

“You can climb up the ladder very quick if you win games on the bounce and Penrith are a good example of that, they’ve won six in a row and the Cowboys in 2017 were a good indication of what can be done.

“I have good belief in my football team but we need to respond to the position we are in.”

The Dragons were touted as premiership contenders before the season began after a solid 2018 campaign and the acquisition of Corey Norman, but injuries and off-field distractions have hindered their chances of playing in September.

McGregor also defended his decision to rest star playmaker Ben Hunt for the crucial clash with Penrith despite an outcry from fans and experts.

CWC 19: Why Blackcaps coach sent Guptill out for 'super over'

CWC 19: Why Blackcaps coach sent Guptill out for 'super over' The Blackcaps opener was a controversial decision.

“Not if you look at the wellbeing and welfare of the player, it’s not a risk,” he said.

“He seemed to be travelling okay after Origin but we got to Tuesday and the most important thing for us was to look after Ben as a person and that’s the reason he isn’t playing this week.”

He has been constantly maligned by the always passionate Dragons supporter base since his arrival as head coach back in 2014, and a lack of success has led to increased pressure and a desire from fans for Mary to get the boot.

But after signing a contract extension early this season that looks very unlikely, and he will need to hope for a miracle in the remaining eight rounds otherwise it will be a very long off-season for the 51-year old.

HBO chief: Sorry, fans, no 'Game of Thrones' do-over.
The clamor from "Game of Thrones" fans for a do-over of the drama's final season has been in vain. HBO programming chief Casey Bloys said Wednesday there was no serious consideration to remaking the story that some viewers and critics called disappointing. There are few downsides to having a hugely popular show like "Game of Thrones," Bloys said, but one is that fans have strong opinions on what would be a satisfying conclusion. © Provided by The Associated Press This image released by HBO shows Kit Harington in a scene from "Game of Thrones.
