The Prince had been sharing updates of his trip to his 14.5million followers on Instagram - which includes the likes of football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba as well as former England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen.

Sheikh Hamdan, not in his traditional robe, posted a photo on his account of him and his friend Badr Ateej looking slightly fed up with the capital's underground system. The caption said: 'We've got a long way to go and Badr is already bored'.

Many of his followers found it very amusing that no one had realised who he was without his robes on. One commented on the post: 'These poor people have no idea with whom they are travelling'.
