There was mass speculation about how the meeting with her would unfold, but the Queen seemed delighted to meet the Bidens and even cracked a few jokes.

Their easy conversation could be attributed to the fact that the Queen has met the President before almost 40 years ago, when he was still a senator.

But the Bidens weren't the only important political couple in attendance on Friday.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his new wife, Carrie Symond, also attended, along with important figures like German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson replied with an emphatic "Yes!", but all eyes were on how the Queen interacted with the Bidens.

Several other key royals were also in attendance; Prince Charles, who is the Queen's heir, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Kate Middleton all made appearances.

The event served as one of the biggest engagements for the Queen since the coronavirus pandemic began, and her first major engagement following the death of Prince Philip in April.

ITV's royal correspondent Chris Ship described the royal family's dispatch to Cornwall for Friday's engagement as maximising "the royals' powers of soft diplomacy" towards the world leaders.

The Times' Roya Nikkhah called it a "royal diplomatic charm offensive".

On Sunday, at the conclusion of the G7 Summit, Her Majesty will host President Biden and the First Lady at Windsor Castle.
