The four-part Channel 4 series, Investigating Diana: Death in Paris, will be broadcast later this month to coincide with the 25th anniversary of her passing.

It is the second Diana-focused film to be released this month, with The Princess documentary airing this weekend which includes clips from the now-disgraced Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.

The series will speak to a number of top detectives in both the U.K. and France, many of whom have never spoken publicly before, in an attempt to separate fact from fiction.

Although the accident was investigated by officials on both sides of the English Channel, Diana's death has continued to attract wild conspiracy theories over the decades.

Prince William and Prince Harry have not commented about either production, but the Duke of Cambridge previously said the Panorama interview should never be shown again.

The docu-series "will also examine the public's insatiable demand for answers", producers say.

It will be told as a "gripping and forensic police procedural" and explore "how powerful individuals, the press and the internet created and fuelled conspiracy theories that overwhelmed facts and called into question the very nature of truth".

The executive producer of Sandpiper Films, Henry Singer, said it was hoped the series would "lay to rest the conspiracy theories that continue to obscure the truth of what happened in the Alma tunnel [in Paris] that night".

A number of conspiracy theories, all of them discredited, emerged in the wake of Diana's death with many of the claims made by Mohamed Al Fayed, the father of Diana's partner Dodi Al Fayed, who also died.

Diana's former butler Paul Burrell claimed to have found a note from Diana which alleged Prince Charles was "planning an accident" to enable him to marry again.

The theories were examined in a 2007 inquest which ultimately found the crash that killed Princess Diana, Al-Fayed and their chauffeur Henri Paul had been caused by "grossly negligent driving".

A jury found they had been unlawfully killed by a combination of speed, Paul being under the influence of alcohol and not wearing seatbelts.

The pursuit of the paparazzi was also a contributing factor.
