Scared of Blush Because You Have Rosacea? We've Got You

Scared of Blush Because You Have Rosacea? We've Got You The other day, I was describing my everyday makeup routine to a skin-care professional. "Tinted SPF 50, concealer, bronzer, cream blush, and mascara," I listed. She replied, "Blush? You still wear it even when you have rosacea?" As someone who has always loved cream blush, forgoing it because I have rosacea is something that had never really occurred to me. But it makes total sense.

I Tried Bella Hadid's Jaw-Highlighting Makeup Trick

I Tried Bella Hadid's Jaw-Highlighting Makeup Trick Have you ever thought about highlighting your jaw? Yeah, me neither - until, that is, I saw everyone on TikTok talking about it. The trend started to bubble up after Bella Hadid was spotted in a few photos that she posted on Instagram with a highlighted jawline that could cut glass. Mind you, Hadid in general just has great bone structure, but that didn't stop makeup fans (myself included) from trying to re-create the look on themselves. In the photos, it looked like Hadid had used a white/gold-toned highlighter to emphasize her jawline and give it a more pronounced, chiseled look.

Luckily, there's an extremely easy way to avoid messing up your makeup. Enter makeup setting sprays. These ultra-fine mists lock your look in place without feeling like you have an extra layer of product on your face. "The main purpose of setting spray is essentially to set your makeup and increase the longevity of wear," professional makeup artist Jonet Williamson tells InStyle. "Some setting sprays are formulated to also help with oil control."

And it keeps your glam locked in and perfect all day long without letting sweat, texture, or dry spots ruin your look. The price cannot be beat either and it works just as well, if not better, than some higher end products.

I Got a "Lip Flip," TikTok's Lip-Filler Alternative

I Got a Image Source: Lucy Thorpe I'm currently on a mission to upgrade my beauty routine, with radiofrequency microneedling, lip blushing, and injections high on my list. I also wanted to give my lips a little boost, but I've tried lip filler before and it wasn't for me. I absolutely loved the look but didn't like the feeling of the filler in my lips, the injection process, or the worry of lip-filler migration. So, when I stumbled across a procedure on TikTok called the "lip flip" - which promised the appearance of fuller lips without dermal filler - I stopped scrolling and started Googling.

Gallery: The Best Hair Gloss Treatments to Refresh Your Hair Color at Home (PopSugar)

BUY NOW$26Hot styling tools, hair coloring, tight topknots, chemical styling - many of us put our hair through a lot, which often results in damage and subsequently loss of shine. Over time, this can lead to hair looking dull, frayed, and less defined. To combat this and help repair damage, deep conditioning treatments and hair masks are typically first port of call. But second to that to get the shine and vibrancy of hair color back are glaze, gloss, and shine treatments. Many gloss and shine treatments were first offered in salons (and are still popular in-salon treatments), often as an add-on when getting your hair dyed, but now there are also plenty of at-home versions of the treatment. For people who are unable to get to a salon, these at-home shine treatments can add a new lease of life to your hair (think: healthy, glossy, vibrant) in a matter of minutes. So, what is a hair gloss or glaze treatment, exactly? Technically speaking, they both pretty much do the same thing - add noticeable shine to your hair - though they do have a few small differences. A gloss is semipermanent treatment that adds vibrancy back into colored hair, evens out tone or brassiness in your hair, as well as adding shine. Most gloss treatments are done in the salon, but there has been a spike in at-home versions, which often last four to six weeks.

What to Keep in Mind

Formula

When it comes to selecting the right formula, Williamson suggests starting with the ingredient list. From there, you can tailor it to your skin's needs and your glam style. "With anything skincare related I always highly suggest paying attention to the ingredients and what it is formulated to do," she shares. "I believe there's a setting spray for every skin type. If you're someone with drier skin you'll want to use a setting spray with hydrating ingredients like essential oils and hyaluronic acid for added moisture. For oily skin, you may want to use a setting spray that will also help control oil and shine on the skin."

Staying Power

You should also pay attention to the staying power of your finishing spray as you'll definitely want your makeup looks to stay in place for as long as possible. Finishing sprays can offer hold from anywhere between 12 to 24 hours depending on the specific product. Consider how long you intend to wear your makeup and the setting — will it be hot out, will you be sweating etc. These factors will help determine how long-lasting your setting spray should be.

Your Questions, Answered

How do you use a setting spray?

Regardless of your makeup expertise, Williamson assures that setting sprays can fit seamlessly into your existing routine. "Ideally, you'll want this to be the final step in your makeup routine and should be sprayed about six inches from your face so that it falls lightly onto the skin," she explains. For some, it might be beneficial to prime their skin with a spritz or two or finish up with a sweep of powder to really refine the complexion and create long-wearing results. "A trick that I like to do for my clients with oily skin is to spray a layer of setting spray before and after makeup," Williamson adds. "For makeup that holds up under masks, I'd suggest double setting, which means using a setting powder and spray."

Can you apply setting spray to other parts of the body?

It's also important to note that setting spray isn't exclusive to the complexion; it can also be applied to the eyes and lips. In addition to locking your glam in place, Williamson recommends using a setting spray to take your eyeshadow to new heights. "Setting sprays can also come in handy when doing your eye makeup," she says. "It can turn a matte shadow into a cream liner and intensify the color payoff of shimmery shadows."
