The Tunisian Yamen Manai won the Arab literature award on Wednesday, for a novel on violence in the most disadvantaged circles of his country, "beautiful abyss". The price, endowed with 10,000 euros thanks to the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation, was created in 2013 by the Institute of the Arab World (IMA) now chaired by Jack Lang.

Yamen Manaï, 42, training engineer, has lived in France since his 18 years. His novel is published by a publisher from Tunis, Elyzad. This fiction tells the story of a 15 -year -old boy incarcerated for killing his father.

"simple and powerful"

The jury praised in a press release "a short fascinating novel written in a simple style and Powerful at the same time, which denounces, through the journey of a rebellious teenager, the injustices of a cruel society in the Tunisia of the popular suburbs ".

Yamen Manaï had already been rewarded in June with the Orange Book Prize in Africa.

A special mention of the price of Arab literature was awarded to Sudanese Hammour Ziada for the drowned of the Nile. Published by Actes Sud, this novel evokes a village on the banks of the river shaken in 1969 by the discovery of a teenage corpse.
