Pattinson’s “terrible western accent” wasn’t the only problem for one reviewer, who called this comedy/western an “extended goof.” The movie follows rich pioneer Samuel Alabaster (Pattinson) across the American frontier to reunite with and wed his love, Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). While the strange, comedic tone of the film, as well as a dramatic shift partway through, were meant to make it innovative, it mostly feels like it doesn’t know what it wants to be.
