Hard exchange of blows to the government course in the Bundestag
opposition and government have had a tough exchange of blows in the general debate in 2023. While Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) was convinced in the Bundestag on Wednesday that Germany was "crisis -proof and winter festival", Union and Left accused him of reaction to the energy crisis too hesitantly. There was also a dispute against strengthening the Bundeswehr against the background of the Ukraine War: CDU parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz accused Scholz here of the broken word.
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) considers a significant increase in allowances to be inheritance and gift tax. "In my eyes, they would have to be raised by about 25 percent," he told the "Augsburger Allgemeine" from Tuesday. "However, since the inheritance and gift tax is entitled to the federal states alone, an initiative to increase the allowances should preferably come from the federal states," he added. © Tobias Schwarz Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) considers a significant increase in the allowances in the inheritance and gift tax. Bayern "got something on the way, but it seems to me that unfortunately even CDU-led countries are rather negative," said Lindner. "Without a majority in the Federal Council, I am powerless as Federal Minister of Finance."
Missing ammunition in the Bundeswehr: Dispute between Lindner and Lambrecht

Background of the debate is a regulation from the annual tax law. This implements a requirement of the Federal Constitutional Court, according to which real estate values will in future have to be estimated as close as possible for tax purposes. However, the law does not provide for any higher allowances in the inheritance - currently they are 400,000 euros for children.
Since the sales prices for real estate have increased significantly in metropolitan areas in recent years, the current allowances could be significantly above this threshold, for example, for inherited condominiums or single -family houses. Inheritance tax would then be due. The change in the law on January 1, 2023 becomes effective. The Union therefore accuses the government of a hidden tax increase.
Lindner rejected such allegations. "There is no increase in inheritance tax," he emphasized. "Why should I also increase a tax from which the federal government does not even benefit, just Bavaria?"
At the request of the Constitutional Court, the proceedings for the valuation of real estate had to be renewed, Lindner stated. "This is piquantly back on Horst Seehofer from the same CSU, which is now making a campaign." Lindner emphasized at the same time: "Nobody has to worry about it: self -used family houses usually remain completely tax -free."
