They had just finished their pregame meal and Texas Western coach Don Haskins had cornered his big center David Lattin with a demand.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -- November 15, 2020 – The South Coast High School Sports Awards is a nine-month student athlete recognition program that culminates in a star-studded, on-demand broadcast show, featuring the biggest names in professional sports and the top student athletes from the Fall River and New Bedford areas.  Honorees for 27 state sanctioned sports will be announced throughout the year in the Herald News and the Standard Times and on the event website at sportsawards.usatoday.com/southcoast.

During the on-demand broadcast, top professional athletes and sportscasters will present these honorees, along with the top three finalists and the athlete of the year for each sport. The awards showcase will also feature other premier awards for both on and off-field accomplishments of student athletes, coaches and teams, including awards for a scholar athlete of the year, the top band, the coach of the year, team of the year, and the male and female athlete of the year.

  The Bryan County High School Sports Awards wants your top play of the 2020-2021 season The Bryan County High School Sports Awards is looking for the best plays of the 2020-2021 season. A volleyball rally that you can’t stop thinking about? We want to see them all.

The awards show will be free to watch on any smartphone or computer thanks to local sponsors.  It is scheduled to premiere at 7 p.m. EDT on Thursday, July 8.

Honorees should register on the show website to reserve their complimentary athlete gift box, which is scheduled to arrive approximately one week prior to the show. Registrations are also used to send out awards for winners following the show.

The South Coast High School Sports Awards, formerly known as the Herald News All Scholastics, is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country. Event organizers had hoped to plan for an in person event for 2021, but concern for the continued safety and health of students and their families with the ongoing spread of COVID-19, led to a decision to produce a streaming awards show.

This is an ambitious text. This Thursday, 73 senators tabled a bill in favor of sports, especially school. Also included in this proposal, better support for high-level athletes, but also the extension of the 1% artistic rule, a device intended to support creation, to sports equipment in order to "support the development and use of equipment. school and university sportsmen ”.

“Due to the various county, state and regional variations in protection against the spread of the virus, as well as our own commitment to safety, we couldn’t confidently plan for live events across the country in 2021,” said Crystal Costa, Gannett’s event director for the high school sports award series. “We do hope and plan to be returning to our ESPY-style high school awards shows in person in 2022.”

Along with the chance to be recognized in this regional awards show, top student athletes may also be featured as honorees for the Massachusetts High School Sports awards program. The honorees will also be announced throughout the year, and top selections for the statewide program will be announced July 15 on sportsawards.usatoday.com/massachusetts.

  Coronavirus: 11 new cases in London-Middlesex; 8 in Elgin-Oxford, 10 in Sarnia-Lambton As of Friday, the region's pandemic case tally stands at 6,143, of which 5,871 have resolved and 181 have died. The most recent death occurred on Feb. 12. All 11 of Friday's new cases are from London, with one aged 19 or younger, four in their 20s, one in their 40s, three in their 50s, and two in their 30s. No cases were reported involving anyone in their 30s or over the age of 70. Exposure source data is pending or undetermined for seven cases, while two cases each are listed as being due to close contact and to outbreak.

Finally, the most elite high school athletes, coaches and teams from across the U.S will be featured in the inaugural USA TODAY High School Sports Awards show. The Massachusetts athletes of the year winners will be the national honorees in cross country, tennis, golf, soccer, volleyball, football, hockey, swimming and diving, lacrosse, wrestling, basketball, softball, track and field, baseball and gymnastics.

The USA TODAY High School Sports Awards show,  which will be televised and available for streaming in early August, will showcase those honorees from each state, announce the top three in the country and then name the athlete of the year in each sport. Viewers will also see awards for the freshman athlete of the year, the play of the year, the nation’s top male and female athlete, and many other premier awards for high school student athletes.

The 63rd annual Grammy Awards are happening on Sunday night, and no matter how socially distanced they’ll be, the stars are still aligning for Music’s Biggest Night.
