Red Wings extend AHL affiliation with Grand Rapids The Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins are a perfect match, and they won’t be splitting up anytime soon. It’s already been two decades since the teams first partnered, nearly the entire history of the Griffins since arriving in the AHL.

Review says Canada Soccer mishandled sexual harassment allegations against coach

Review says Canada Soccer mishandled sexual harassment allegations against coach TORONTO — An independent review has concluded that Canada Soccer "mishandled" sexual harassment allegations in 2008 against then under-20 women's coach Bob Birarda, who is currently awaiting sentencing on sexual assault charges. The 125-page report by McLaren Global Sport Solutions, commissioned by Canada Soccer, paints a picture of a governing body "described by many as being dysfunctional and inefficient," with "significant leadership upheaval and transition at the highest levels" in 2007 and 2008.

The victim, identified by Oxnard police as Misael Sanchez of Port Hueneme, California, was a soccer player who became embroiled in the fight between players on opposite teams and spectators of the game. He was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.

"The fight occurred when the two teams disagreed with a referee's decision," Oxnard police said, according to CNN. "During the fight, Sanchez was assaulted by multiple assailants," police said.

McGill, 53, had been with the Vegas Golden Knights since their inception, serving as an assistant coach for the last five years in the desert.

The family has created a GoFundMe to pay for Sanchez's funeral and memorial. "My family is heartbroken and still in disbelief, as we expected a bright future for him," the Sanchez family posted on the verified GoFundMe page.

The 2007 NHL Draft ended up bringing many superstars into the league, most namely Patrick Kane, Max Pacioretty, P.K. Subban, Ryan McDonagh, and others, but one forgotten name from that class is Sam Gagner. After a 15-year NHL career that’s included 967 games and 505 points, the journeyman forward finds himself without a team for the 2022-23 NHL season. © Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports Detroit Red Wings center Sam Gagner Gagner never quite reached his sixth-overall billing, hitting the 50-point mark only once, but he’s been nothing if not serviceable depth for a long time in this league.
