"We have bad news to announce today since the east of Kentucky, where we are still in the research and rescue phase," tweeted Democrat Andy Beshear, governor of this American rural state on Saturday, July 30.

Torrential rains fell on eastern Kentucky on the night of Wednesday 27 to Thursday 28, transforming certain roads into rivers and forcing residents to take refuge on the roof of their house while waiting for help. The rains continued on Friday, but the weather offered a welcome respite to rescuers on Saturday. A cold front moves south and time should remain relatively dry until Sunday afternoon.
