The broadcaster was inundated with messages of support but was forced to hit back at a Twitter troll, who joked that his current struggle "doesn't sound like a great advert for revitive".

@wogsalg responded more sympathetically, confiding to Eamonn: "I feel your pain. I had 6 months of physio 2 hours a night 5 a week.

"I hated relying on folk..but the one thing was NO one will ever understand how awful Physio is and how exhausting."

Eamonn responded by admitting that "relying is soul destroying", but was met with a flurry of support from followers who urged him to "keep going" as they miss him on TV.

Eamonn previously admitted that he found his health woes "emasculating", after periods when he was left unable even to tie his shoelaces.

After enduring three slipped discs on his back earlier in the year, he had surgery on the NHS in his native Ireland.

However, he has continued to battle chronic pain, despite regular physiotherapy sessions.
