the start-up niçoise Teebike has sold 3,000 electrified wheels that make it possible to transform the cheap mechanical bikes.

Why buy a new electric bike that is up average more than 2,000euros, when you can have one to 795euros? This is the bet launched by Laurent Durrieu when he launched Teebike in November2019. To arrive at such a price, he had for thought not to sell an electric assistance bike but only ... an electrified wheel. Compatible with all types of bike, the teebike wheel replaces the front wheel with a traditional bicycle, transforming it into a real electrical assistance cycle with an autonomy of 60kilometers. The power is then controllable thanks to a mobile application, which also displays the battery level.

Record fuel costs causes 200% surge in drivers not paying

Record fuel costs causes 200% surge in drivers not paying Families in Britain saw the average price of petrol at forecourts hit a record 163.5p per litre yesterday, up from 148.0p just a month ago - while diesel was at 173.4p, up from 151.6p a month ago. Experts said falling wholesale costs are failing to impact pump prices - the data for which is provided by Experian Catalist - after oil prices dropped last week following a surge due to supply fears amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The price per barrel of Brent crude had reached an eye-watering £106 ($139) on Monday of last week - its highest level in 14 years.

The advantage is of course economic, but also ecological. "I am from the BIC generation, confesses Laurent Durrieu. I was told that the good economic model was linear: I buy, I consume, I throw. It is an ineptitude, while we can roll with the bike of our grandparents without risk with good brakes and good wheels. The success is at the rendezvous: 3,000unities were sold in France, and Teebike accounts reaching the 10,000 in 2023.

1Million bikes thrown by An

but Laurent Durrieu does not stop there. To push the green dimension of his project even further, he combined the apprentices of Auteuil, the Foundation dedicated to Professional Reintegration. Thanks to workshops established in Brignoles (Var), Valbonne (Alpes-Maritimes) and soon Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne), Teebike retrieves bicycles with breakage to repair and equip some of the electrified wheels. "In France, one throws 1million of bicycles a year while at least half are in good condition," says the contractor. The idea has come from his stay in China, where the "bicycle cemeteries" are multiplying: "Self-service bicycle companies have laid 25million a year because their economic model did not work. »

Go through the apprentices of Auteuil allows Teebike to participate in the social integration while creating a sales sector of occasions which did not exist until then. "Economically, sell used bikes, it does not work, assures Laurent Durrieu. With the time spent repairing it, a used bike will cost 200 to 300EURES while you can find a new one to 150euros at Decathlon. He therefore proposes to sell the bikes repaired between 70 and 100euros. Some can also be equipped with teebike wheel. Confident in the success of the model, the contractor wants to open about twenty workshops in one year.

In order to create this real recycled cycle sales ecosystem, the start-up signed a partnership with Decathlon to sell its bikes. Recognition for Laurent Durrieu: "This is the first time the group sells products that are not of its own brand. »
