Paige Sandhu has opened up about leaving her role as Emmerdale supervillain Meena Jutla, revealing new details about joining the show back in 2020.

Meena is due to make her exit after committing a long list of horrific crimes, of which she has been found guilty. It’s hard to believe that she has only been appearing on the ITV soap for around 18 months, as the killer character has captivated the nation.

But there was indeed a time, we’ll call it Pre-Meena, before the famous village was overpowered by an emotionless, psychopathic woman. And as she reflects on her departure, star Paige tells Metro.co.uk how it all began for her.

Vengeful Moira targets an unsuspecting Charity in Emmerdale

Vengeful Moira targets an unsuspecting Charity in Emmerdale Moira is out for revenge - and it's best serve cold!A few weeks ago, Charity shared a charged moment with ex-fiancée Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) after a stressful time. Caught up in the moment, Vanessa leaned in for a kiss, but Charity hesitated.

Asked first if she was going to miss everyone at Emmerdale, she says, ‘of course I am.’

On whether there were any particular cast members she would miss, Paige added: ‘I remember coming out of my screen test. I did it with Rebecca and Matthew who plays David. There was a whole bunch of crew there and I remember saying to my agent that it would be such a lovely place to work because everyone is so kind.

‘I felt this energy of everyone’s a family, everyone’s very warm, everyone’s very welcoming and it’d be such a lovely place to work and it has been.

‘So I’m going to miss the crew, all of the actors, especially Rebecca. She will be the person that I miss the most. It felt like the right time to go in story terms with Meena but I will miss it.’

Mack returns to publicly humiliate Charity in Emmerdale

Mack returns to publicly humiliate Charity in Emmerdale Mack is back - but not with romance in mind. The character made a comeback following his sister Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J Robb) savage scheme to teach Charity a lesson by leaving her stranded on a roadside.

Paige concludes that she feels very proud of the work everyone has put into Meena’s story.

‘It’s been wonderful. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster of a ride playing out the storyline. There have been ups and downs. More the former than the latter. All of us as a collective, I think we’ve really committed to the story, haven’t we?

‘I think we really committed to it, we’ve all been invested in it, we’ve tried to make it as good and as gripping as it could possibly be. I think that’s quite a responsibility to pull off, or to be expected to pull off, such a dramatic, almost theatrical story. I think as well as a source of anxiety in those terms, I think it’s been a source of great pride. I hope so anyway, for everyone involved.’

Such dedication has certainly shone through on-screen; and as Paige bows out, we’ll miss the unpredictability that always accompanied Meena’s presence.
