A 15-year-old girl was raped by two teenage cousins at the Appleby Horse Fair in 2019, a court has heard. Jurors heard the two boys took turns attacking the girl - who was spending the day with her family - after they "frogmarched" her into an alley in Cumbia. The defendants denied wrongdoing but were convicted following a three-week trial at Carlisle Crown Court.

Prosecutors said the two now 18-year-old boys first targeted the girl as she walked through town with friends.

Tim Evans said they first approached her while shouting and asking her name.

Mr Evans added they asked "if she wanted to go for a walk with them" but the victim was "fobbing them off".

The two teenagers then "shouted at her, followed her, and her wrist was grabbed" as she crossed a bridge.

The prosecutor added the boys were "frogmarching" the girl into an alleyway.

He said: "She was then taken down a secluded lane on the town centre side of the bridge."

Jurors heard the teens switched roles as lookout and attacker while raping the girl, who Mr Evans said was "scared throughout" and "repeatedly telling them no".

The attack only ended when the victim fled the scene, as courts heard one of the boys wanted to continue with their assault.

The "scared and shaking" girl later returned to her group and begged them to "get me out of here", a friend told detectives.

A male friend providing evidence to the jury said she was "very pale as though she was going to faint".

The victim picked her attackers from a police identity parade on July 9.

The defendants said the girl consented to the sexual activity, but Mr Evans contested the claims by asking jurors whether a teenage girl would have sex with two strangers minutes after meeting them.

He questioned whether they were "desperate to get sexual contact with a female that day - any female?".

The two unnamed first cousins now face being detained after jurors delivered two guilty verdicts.

Their verdicts followed 10 hours of deliberation, and both were remanded in custody.

They will be sentencd at the same court on February 17.
