Why Thomas Tuchel lost it with Malang Sarr as Chelsea defender stars but doesn't solve transfer issue
Here are our talking points as Chelsea secured their place in the Carabao Cup final after beating Spurs 3-0 on aggregate in the semi finalSince arriving at Chelsea a little under 12 months ago, the German tactician has reached three cup finals - four if you include the UEFA Super Cup - which is a phenomenal achievement.
Olympique Lyon head coach Peter Bosz has confirmed that Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri will complete his season-long loan in France amid the Blues’ reported efforts to recall him.
It had been suggested over the past days that Chelsea were attempting to bring the Italian back to Stamford Bridge following the long-term injuries suffered by Ben Chilwell and Reece James.
So far, they have not had any luck in securing a recall, with Lyon keen to keep him at the Groupama Stadium for the remainder of the campaign after the defender has impressed across his 20 appearances in all competitions for the French outfit.
Thomas Tuchel could hand Kenedy huge Chelsea opportunity and makes transfer market claim
Kenedy extended his Chelsea contract before heading on loan to Flamengo but has since returned to Stamford BridgeThe Brazilian joined Flamengo on a temporary deal in August, while also extending his contract with the Blues until 2023. Kenedy featured 18 times, but predominantly from the bench, for Flamengo and netted one goal during his spell.
However, Bosz has warned Chelsea that Emerson will not be back in west London until at least the summer.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Troyes, he said: “Yes, we will keep Emerson.”
That confirmation will certainly be a big blow to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel as he attempts to find more back-up at left-back following the injury sustained by Chilwell.

It had been reported that the Blues were looking to enter the January transfer market in order to recruit a left-back, with a number of names having been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel should bend to Lukaku to initiate phase two at Chelsea
Tuchel's forwards aren't going to "show up more" just because he's getting angrier about it. Time to changeIn 13 out of 17 seasons under Roman Abramovich’s ownership, Chelsea have either won the Premier League or sacked their manager. One of the other instances saw Jose Mourinho sacked two weeks into the following season. Mourinho survived a second time, living on club legend status, as Frank Lampard did. And the final occasion saw Maurizio Sarri leave of his own accord, with the Chelsea hierarchy opening the door while readying themselves to shove him out of it.
Even Tuchel had confirmed that his side could be set to look at recruits.
Talking last week, he said: “I will not comment on detail in the market. We check our options and it needs to make sense. If we had a full squad I would love to answer this question and say we need nothing. But we have the issue and that’s why we look into it.”
However, it appears that the European champions will have to fork out a considerable amount in order to seal a January addition.
One of the main names linked with a transfer to Chelsea throughout the window thus far is AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez after his sparkling performances in Serie A.
It has been suggested, however, that the Rossoneri would be set to demand up to £50m for his signature. While the fee may be manageable for the Blues, it would represent a huge amount to pay for a player who may not be first-choice under Thomas Tuchel once Chilwell returns to contention.
So without both Emerson - and potentially a high price for any left-back signing - both Tuchel and Chelsea have been left in a very tricky position.
