Colchester United boss Hayden Mullins has said there must be a reaction from his side in their game against Sutton United tonight.

Colchester travel to Gander Green Lane this evening for the second time in a fortnight after they faced their opponents in the EFL Trophy, a game which they lost 2-1. Since that game, the Us have also faced defeats against Forest Green Rovers and fellow bottom half team Barrow.

They now find themselves three points above the relegation zone and their gaffer has called on his side to produce a big performance tonight. He told the Daily Gazette: “We’ll be tuned in for that game, there’s no doubt about that.

Martin Clunes reveals he's making new drama with 'Manhunt' makers

Martin Clunes reveals he's making new drama with 'Manhunt' makers Martin Clunes says his new series focuses on county lines drug dealing in a Welsh farming community. With last year's second series of Manhunt, in which Clunes played real-life detective DCI Colin Sutton, now looking likely to be the final one, the Doc Martin star has turned his attention to a new project.

“There needs to be a reaction and I think the players know that.

“The biggest disappointment was the defeat and the performance – some of the performance for large periods of that has got to change, because it wasn’t good enough.”

However since that last game against Sutton in the Papa John’s Trophy, Colchester have considerably more options. They are now able to call on new signings such as Corrie Andrews who has joined on loan from AFC Wimbledon as well as players such as Frank Nouble who has returned from injury.

Mullins said: “When we played them a couple of weeks ago, we were really under strength.

“Now we’re back where we should be, in terms of players.

“The bench was a lot better [against Barrow] and you can look round and see players who can make an impact.

“It was Noubs’ [Frank Nouble] first appearance for a long time too and that can really give you a different dimension.”

The Verdict:

With no win in January so far, Mullins will be desperate for his side to pick up some valuable points this evening and create a bigger gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

There is no doubt the Us boss finds himself with a much stronger team to choose from tonight and he will be hoping that they will come out with quality and be up for the fight in the game.

It will definitely be a hard test for Colchester as Sutton currently sit 5th in the league with two wins under their belt in 2022. In addition, their most recent game against Stevenage saw a 3-3 result showing Sutton are happy finding the back of the net. Therefore, Colchester will need to contain this attacking threat if they want to come out victorious in tonight’s game.
