MK Dons have certainly been hurt in this window, and it appears that they are in store for some more pain as Matt O’Riley edges closer to a move to Celtic.

Football Insider has confirmed that the 21-year-old has passed a medical with the Scottish giants, as a done deal seems imminent.

Despite O’Riley’s versatility enabling him to operate all across the midfield, he was particularly effective in an advanced role and as a number 10.

The young midfielder has chipped in with seven goals and five assists already this season, proving to be a consistent source of chances too.

Whilst Scott Twine has been equally as influential, it would be no surprise to see the Dons dip back into the market and find an O’Riley replacement, and someone to work along alongside the 22-year-old.

Opinion: Blackburn Rovers could consider offering 23-year-old to League One side if player-swap suggestions prove accurate With finances understandably tight following the events of the past couple of years, some clubs are getting creative to complete their business in the January transfer window. One player that could be on the Dons’ radar, and would be an excellent signing in their fight for the League One play-offs is QPR’s George Thomas.

The 24-year-old has seen a lack of game time with the high-flying R’s this season, which has almost been entirely down to the form of both Ilias Chair and Joe Willock.

However, Thomas has not even seen many minutes in Chair’s absence, and with the R’s reportedly in the running for Swansea City’s Jamie Paterson, it appears that the 24-year-old will continue to struggle to pave his way into the side during the second half of the campaign.

Thomas possesses an excellent technical ability and end-product, whilst he is someone who always looks to break the lines and be positive whilst in possession.

From pariahs to paragons: MK Dons are doing it right

From pariahs to paragons: MK Dons are doing it right MK Dons might have been coldly manufactured but they are now a brilliantly run club.An equally unknown entity in the form of Liam Manning was chosen as Martin’s replacement, though the role reflected the modern switch from manager to head coach, the first appointment of its type in MK’s short history.

He also has the work rate and grit to match, which would certainly suit MK Dons’ style of play.

Thomas is getting to an age where he will want to be playing every week, and the Buckinghamshire club are a side who could probably promise him that.

Even if QPR were to sanction a loan deal, this could be very good business for the Dons, especially with January being quite a destructive month thus far.

MK Dons need to ensure they maintain a play-off push during the second half of this season, and the arrival of a player like Thomas would send out a statement.
