George Clooney, Gladys Knight, and U2 among Kennedy Center honorees

"To all those who were anticipating a great Pearl Jam show tonight in Vienna, we were too. However, due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder's throat was left damaged.”.

He said: "I'm not going to lie I was really nervous before the game. A manager rang me before to ask me how I was feeling and I said 'I'm really nervous' and he said 'well so you bloody should be'.

"I came out seeing the fans and the atmosphere which I heard about but you don't understand it until you witness it. We talk about 12th man and that was really evident today and because of their love for the players it gets reciprocated and I think you see that back from the team so I think from all the players and the staff collectively it didn't go unnoticed and we're incredibly grateful for that."

The new boss was also keen to draw a line under the previous campaign after the club began a new era under him. He added: "One thing I've said to the players and the staff is not to look back on last season because a lot of us weren't part of that so we have to look at what we have now and look to the future.

Motorists blast Sadiq Khan over plans to expand ULEZ and slap drivers with £12 charge OUTSIDE London

Motorists blast Sadiq Khan over plans to expand ULEZ and slap drivers with £12 charge OUTSIDE London Transport for London (TfL) is consulting on expanding the ULEZ to cover the whole of Greater London - including Bromley, Wembley, Croydon and Ealing - from August next year. However, families who live in Dartford and travel into neighbouring Bexley will be forced to fork out the 'unavoidable' £12.50-a-day to drive in the ULEZ, placing an extra burden on households amid the cost of living crisis. One homeowner said he would face paying £12 to travel from his home in Dartford to Sainsbury's in Crayford - which is only one mile away.

"Those lads were outstanding today and have been all pre-season but as a collective, I think everybody was."
