Liverpool‘s start to the 2022/23 season has been far from great.

The team who pushed Manchester City all the way in the battle for the title last time out are already four points behind Pep Guardiola’s men.

Liverpool’s first two matches of the new Premier League season have seen them draw with newly-promoted Fulham and, most recently, Crystal Palace.

The stalemate versus the latter on Monday evening was certainly an eventful affair, with £85 million summer signing Darwin Nunez shown a straight red card for headbutting Joachim Andersen.

Liverpool actually equalised after the striker was dismissed from the field of play through Luis Diaz and they probably deserved to win the match, as they were the better side even with 10 men.

DOMINIC KING: Draw already feels like end of the world for Klopp

DOMINIC KING: Draw already feels like end of the world for Klopp DOMINIC KING: They have created a culture at Liverpool where draws are compared to defeats and, on the banks of the Thames, you saw this mindset on the league's opening weekend.Mo Salah scurried to the dressing room at the final whistle, barely casting a glance towards the away section, Virgil van Dijk was similarly vexed, muttering to himself as the ramifications of the 2-2 draw with Fulham began to sink in.

But it just wasn’t to be for the Reds, who don’t look like the all-conquering outfit we saw in 2021/22 just yet.

Injuries certainly haven’t helped in that regard. Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Alcantara were all unavailable for selection on Monday.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool’s slow start to the season has been mocked on social media by rival fans.

Nunez’s red card incident has predictably been given the meme treatment, as will footage of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold looking ‘completely lost’ before kick-off versus Palace.

As Arnold Schwarzenegger Turns 75, The Actor Reflects On Advice From His Dad That’s Stuck With Him As Arnold Schwarzenegger prepared to turn 75, the Hollywood icon reflected on some advice from his late father that stuck with him. Before entering his 75th year of life, the action legend decided to set goals for himself. Having achieved multiple accomplishments over his decades in the spotlight, the goals for his milestone year were ambitious and grounded. Two objectives stuck out in his official website newsletter from the rest with their simple and sweet purpose. This year, Schwarzenegger wanted to be more kind and promote acts of kindness to celebrate his milestone year.

As the two teams were lining up for the television cameras at Anfield, the Liverpool pair failed to realise when the rest of their teammates walked off to shake the hands of the Palace players and officials.

Instead, they just stood there, soaking up the atmosphere at the start of their first outing on home soil in 2022/23, until Salah finally clocked on…

Football fans are never going to let two big-name professionals get away with something like that in the present day, particularly when it occurs during a shaky start to a season.

Liverpool will hope to return to winning ways next Monday when they travel to play bitter rivals Manchester United, who’re currently in a full-blown crisis.

Erik ten Hag’s side are yet to register a point in the Premier League this season and were hammered 4-0 by Brentford in their last game.

Even with some big-name players missing, including the suspended Nunez, Liverpool will be licking their lips as they head to Old Trafford, the ground where they famously won 5-0 back in October.
