A father killed with his beloved dog has been described as a "gorgeous lad" who was "always great fun to be around".

Craig Dixon, 39, and pooch Duchess were hit by a silver Citroen C3 on Friday at around 4.40pm in Guisborough, North Yorkshire.

The dad was dashed to hospital but died of his injuries.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody for questioning. Cleveland Police are now appealing for information and dashcam footage, Yorkshire Live reports.

Friends have expressed their sorrow and shock at Craig's death on social media following an online appeal by Cleveland Police.

Childhood friends added to the tribute.

Cleveland Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police - as well as any motorists who have dashcam from the Westgate area of Guisborough shortly before, during and after the incident - to get in touch.
