The agreement reached Saturday by officials in Glasgow, Scotland, pushes countries to move from fossil fuels faster, to strengthen "near term" climate targets, and to urge wealthier countries to help poorer countries battle the rising costs of climate change.
While the new deal aims to slow the effects of climate change, it doesn't go far enough to satisfy some scientists, according to the Washington Post. Experts say the package does not go far enough because it does not fulfill the 2015 Paris Accords' goal of limiting the Earth’s warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (or 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels.
This story is breaking and will be updated as more information comes in.
