My colleagues will often talk about their various hookups. I never join in the conversation.
I'm 35 and hold my V-card with pride. I need a ring on my finger before I lose it to my one and only. I'd be devastated if I betrayed my principles and had a one-night stand.

I've been a journalist in Portland for nearly a decade, and it's also my hometown. I've covered openings and evolutions of the local food scene, and regularly drag my husband to the newest hot restaurant run by a local chef or a James Beard Award winner. Though I'm always looking for the next cuisine to try, I also have my tried-and-true favorites.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Share Sweet Snaps from Their Vegas Wedding
"Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things—and worth waiting for," JLo wrote in her newsletter. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck first met on the set of Gigli, while Lopez was still married to her second husband. A few months later, during the summer of 2002, the two were spotted kissing at Lopez's 32nd birthday party, and by November of 2002, Affleck was starring in the music video for "Jenny from the Block" and the two were engaged. They dated for one more year—they were supposed to marry in September 2003, but called it off due to "excessive media attention"—and by January 2004, they were broken up. Lopez and Affleck went their separate ways, married, and had children (Affleck shares three kids with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, Lopez has twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony) before reuniting in April 2021 after Lopez split from Alex Rodriguez. "It’s natural between them, and the chemistry is unreal," a Lopez source told E! at the time. “They picked up where they last left off and are enjoying each other’s company right now." Soon, the two were spotted by paparazzi, and made their red carpet (re)debut in September 2021. In April 2022, they announced their engagement—Affleck proposed to Lopez while she was in the bubble bath with a green diamond engagement ring—and by July, they were married! Lopez told People that the growth they've been through is key to making their new relationship work: "We're older now, we're smarter, we have more experience, we're at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things." For his part, Affleck is grateful for his "second chance," he told WSJ Magazine. Here, scroll through the best photos of Lopez and Affleck over the years.
Portland's main restaurant row is NE Sandy Boulevard — recognizable as the diagonal thoroughfare on the grid-like east side of town. But there are unique restaurants everywhere, especially along the main drags in each neighborhood.
From food-cart pods and artisanal coffee and doughnuts to fine dining and craft spirits, Portland offers a variety of cuisines. Here's where to look while you're scouting dinner reservations — and the top spots I'd take you for my favorite food and drink.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters
I always start my day with coffee in Stumptown — the nickname for our city full of tree stumps. It's also the name of Stumptown Coffee Roasters, a beloved local turned national coffee-shop chain.
In my opinion, Seattle and Starbucks have nothing on Oregonian coffee shops like Stumptown. The cold brew is the standout for me, and the cold cans of coffee with oat milk have saved me on many busy workday mornings. I also recommend picking up a bag of Stumptown's French roast or Founder's Blend to share with friends.
My 9-year-old son and I share a room. After the death of my father and a divorce, it brings comfort to both of us.
The author says that after her father's death and a divorce from her husband, sleeping in the same room with her son makes both of them feel better.Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's middle child, was the subject of a dubious story published by the New York Post that aired unverified claims about juicy emails and embarrassing images it said were found on the younger Biden's laptop. The story was widely discredited, but not before it raised questions among lawmakers and US intelligence about a possible Russian disinformation effort ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

Rose City Coffee Co.
Another of my favorite Portland coffee shops is Rose City Coffee Co. It's across from Brooklyn Park and adjacent to the Brooklyn Mall, where I like to hunt for antiques with coffee in hand. One time a barista put seasonal homemade caramel in my apple latte — it was to die for.
Rose City also has a huge selection of plants in a partnership with local plant shop Artemisia, which needed a new home during the pandemic. Once you have your brew, you can browse their cute pots and planters, crystals, succulents, and terrarium kits.

Blue Star Donuts
The famous Voodoo Doughnut is a great stop for people with a sweet tooth who'll enjoy doughnuts with toppings like Froot Loops or candy, but I recommend stopping by Blue Star Donuts for what it calls "donuts for grownups." Here you'll find flavors like blueberry bourbon basil and Cointreau crème brûlée — I like the lemon and lime curd or the chocolate almond ganache, but flavors change whenever the chefs get creative.

Xport Bar
You couldn't be in a better town than Portland for craft beer and artisanal liquors. For a rooftop happy hour, Xport is one of my favorite spots. The bar offers a signature-cocktail menu with seasonal changes — I once had a cocktail here made with beets that I'll never forget.
Located on the 16th floor of The Porter Hotel, the bar has two patio areas with views of downtown and cozy fire pits to keep warm on windy evenings.

10 Barrel Brewing
10 Barrel Brewing started in Bend, Oregon, in 2006, and now has a Portland location in the Pearl District. Here you'll find limited-release, special-edition, and seasonal brews, and mixed packs to take home. Many Portlanders go for the hoppy IPAs our state is known for, but I prefer the sweet, dark porters (look for one with vanilla or chocolate) — just ask what's local and on tap.

Gino's
For casual dining, Gino's is a top choice for me. A full-service Italian restaurant, Gino's offers dishes like locally sourced seafood and made-from-scratch pasta that are lauded by locals and tourists alike — even Lady Gaga ate here a few years ago. It's in the southeastern historic neighborhood of Sellwood along 13th Avenue, a lively shopping district worth walking around before settling down for some fresh pasta.

Multnomah Whiskey Library
If you're looking for a nightcap after a long day of sightseeing, I recommend dropping by the Multnomah Whiskey Library downtown, which is exactly what it sounds like. The upstairs lounge has a cozy vibe and exposed brick, and the menu features more than 1,500 spirits as well as small plates.
The Whiskey Library is membership-based, but visitors can buy a pass to make a one-time reservation from Tuesday through Thursday.

As a modern, first-generation Indian American, I'm pleased to uphold the traditional values of the country where my parents were raised. Sex before marriage is taboo in India.
My mom and dad never spoke about sex when I was growing up. My sister and I loved to watch Bollywood movies in the 1990s and early 2000s. The films wouldn't show a couple kissing, but the actors were allowed to hold hands.
There were no tank tops, no cleavage, no makeup, and no socializing with boys when I attended middle school. I was home for junior and senior prom. The only time I dressed up was for dance recitals. I'd been doing Indian dancing for years and performed in the talent shows at high school. People would be shocked because I was the class geek who wore glasses and braces.

My dad said, "What happens on college campuses? Kids sleep around."
Paula Abdul and Amber Midthunder attend the premiere of Prey in LA
Paula Abdul and Amber Midthunder looked fashionable while attending the premiere of Prey at Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The 60-year old singer and television personality showed off her toned legs in a stylish short-sleeve tricolor dress, which she paired with white pointed-toe heels. Meanwhile the 25-year old actress - who leads the fifth installment in the Predator franchise as skilled Comanche Nation warrior Naru - was the epitome of elegance in a high-collar delicate transparent pink floral gown.
He told me about his plans for my arranged marriage on the drive home from my graduation in 2009. I was 23 and thought, "You've never even let me have a boyfriend." He said, "I'll find someone for you. There are all kinds of Indian matrimonial sites online."
I said no, thank you.
My dad wanted me to put my dating profile on sites for singles with Indian origins
Dad decided to find somebody in America who had strong Indian values. He'd try to introduce me to doctors and lawyers in our home state of New Jersey. But I never met with them. I didn't trust my dad to pick out a husband for me. He'd want someone just like himself. My parents' marriage — which was arranged in India — was challenging.
I didn't want to post my profile on places like Bengalimatrimony.com. I knew it would only lead to increased pressure to make things work, even if I felt nothing for the person.

She said her father lied to people that she had married in the U.S. Courtesy of Sonali Chandra I hated the idea of instant gratification. It was a culture shock to date in Manhattan, where I worked on Wall Street in my mid-to-late 20s. Guys would develop an attraction for me, but I'd realize that all they wanted was to take me to bed. If they were going to use me for sex and vanish the next morning, I'd have been mortified.
I had my first kiss at the age of 26, and it felt amazing. Things went no further. I think the romance went nowhere because of my beliefs.
Four years ago, I met another guy I really liked. One night, we were having a drink in a hotel bar and he wanted to rent a room. I told him that it would be my first time. He said, "You deserve someone who will always be there for you, but I can't be there for you." He didn't return my phone calls or texts after that. It strengthened my theory that I couldn't have sex with a guy who could ghost me.

All 9 men I've dated in my life have turned out to be jerks
In 2019, I moved to Los Angeles, where I work as the front-desk manager at an Equinox gym. I told myself, "I've had enough of these games — I'm going to marry my career."
I've dated nine guys in my life. Each has turned out to be a jerk. They asked me out based on my appearance, but after I told them about my high standards and morals, they disappeared. Three of them proposed to me because they needed visas to work in America. I found it quite funny, and it gave me material for the stand-up comedy I've been doing since January. I poke fun at the fact I'm a millennial and still a virgin. I'll joke that in India they say, "How you dance indicates how you make love." I am an excellent dancer, so I know I'll do great.
© Courtesy of Sonali Chandra Sonali Chandra, front right, said there's an Indian saying, "How you dance indicates how you make love." Courtesy of Sonali Chandra Nonetheless, I crave companionship. I've cried tears of loneliness. I've spent every birthday and holiday over the past decade on my own. I wonder if marriage will ever happen because men are so scared of my values. I don't really understand why. When I was growing up, virginity was a virtue.
As for my father, he's ashamed that I still don't have a husband. We had a family reunion in March at my grandmother's funeral in New Delhi. Dad lied to everyone and said I got married in the US.
People like me are teased and ostracized, but I'd like to inspire and motivate not only young women but men, too. They shouldn't have to submit to an arranged marriage — or societal pressure to have sex.
