  This One Thing Reveals the Best Weight Loss Method for You, Study Finds New research suggests that dropping pounds comes down to this key fact about you: Your personality type, and how it effects your motivation.For the study, published October 14 in the scientific journal PLOS ONE, a team of researchers led by X. Shirley Chen, M.D., re-analyzed data from a 2019 study that sought to identify the best way to motivate overweight and/or obese adults to become more physically active.

Inspired by diets commonly followed in the middle of the 20th Century by residents of Italy, Greece, Spain, and other nations around (or within) the Mediterranean Sea, the Mediterranean Diet consists primarily of vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains, seafood, and a healthy supply of virgin olive oil. It also means only moderate consumption of dairy products, rare consumption of red meat, and almost total avoidance of processed foods and sugary beverages.

Experts have long noted the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, which include a decreased risk of heart attack, stroke, and/or type-II diabetes, as well as weight loss and lower blood pressure.

Now, a new study conducted by the United States Air Force has found that a Mediterranean diet may also improve cognitive abilities—at least when it's paired with plenty of exercise. The Air Force study used a double-blind test and control group, both of which followed an identical, strict exercise regimen for 12 weeks. During that period, one group was given daily supplements that mimicked the nutritional properties of Mediterranean diet foods while the others got a placebo. At the end of the trial period, the group that had taken the real supplement showed a significant improvement in six out of eight cognitive tests, while those taking the placebo improved in only four out of the eight tests.

  This Popular Eating Habit May Not Help You Lose Weight, Study Says Time-restricted eating has been shown to be an effective strategy for weight loss, however, new research suggests it may not work for all.A recent study presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions takes the latter view. In this particular research, 41 overweight adults with either prediabetes or diabetes were followed in a 12-week study, with half of them sticking to a time-restricted eating pattern of eating 80% of their day's calories before 1 pm. The other participants consumed half their daily calories after 5 pm daily, which to clarify, is a fairly standard eating pattern among Americans.

The results suggest that the Mediterranean diet along with exercise may improve working memory, mental reaction time, and provide other cognitive benefits as well.

A new study finds that eating "Western diet" foods can slow the benefits of a Mediterranean Diet and make the brain age faster.Published in Alzheimer's&Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association on Jan. 7, 2021, the study looked at the effect of "Western diet" foods on older adults. These include fried foods, sweets, red and processed meats, full-fat dairy. Following a strict Mediterranean diet of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, olive oil, nuts, seeds, and legumes and limiting other kinds of foods is equal to the brain being 5.8 years younger, scientists found.
