Home & Garden: I let an interior designer critique my 1-bedroom apartment. Here's how he'd make the open-plan living space look bigger and brighter.

After the Yankees’ night of history ended in a loss, there was no championship belt to give out since there was no win to celebrate, but there was still history to recognize on Tuesday, and the team made sure to honor the two stars of the night.

Aaron Judge, having just broken Roger Maris’ single-season home run record, and Gerrit Cole, having surpassed Ron Guidry’s single-season strikeout record, were both honored in the locker room, led by a toast from Anthony Rizzo.

Guidry even called in to the team, and the team played it through the speakers of the clubhouse in a salute to Cole.

This Modernist Atlanta Home Is Cheeky With a Little Edge

This Modernist Atlanta Home Is Cheeky With a Little Edge The 1980s abode perfectly reflects the designer-owner’s styleThe Lake Claire neighborhood, located on the east side of Atlanta, boasts an eclectic mix of homes—from Victorian manors to Craftsman bungalows and 1950s cottages. However, Krista’s 1980s modernist abode is unlike traditional remodels, taking classic design expressions and developing an entirely new concept for today. This direction is not a revival of a modernist structure but rather a mixture of modern and traditional styles. “It was a new experience layering on and reworking some of the earlier more retro work I had done for our clients [who previously owned this house],” Krista says.

“Rizz did a great job,” Aaron Boone said. “We wanted to pay tribute and toast Gerrit, so we did that, and then Aaron, then Gerrit and Aaron both spoke, then we did a toast together as a team. It was an amazing moment.

“I think both Gerrit and Aaron were a little bit emotional. To have their teammates celebrating them and them sharing it with their teammates, I think it meant everything.”

Cole was emotional when talking to YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits after the game, describing the scene immediately after Judge’s unforgettable 62nd home run.

Step Inside 6 Midcentury-Modern Homes in California That Are Undeniably Enviable

Step Inside 6 Midcentury-Modern Homes in California That Are Undeniably Enviable From San Francisco to San Diego, wood paneling and floor-to-ceiling windows carry the dayMark Hoppus knows music. After all, he’s one third of Blink-182, the pop-punk band which exploded in 1999 with hits like “What’s My Age Again?” and “All the Small Things,” and that—despite breakups, makeups, and member shake-ups—remains a prominent part of the millennial cultural lexicon. The bassist and singer did not know anything about the architect Harold “Hal” Levitt when shopping for a home in Los Angeles with his wife Skye Hoppus back in 2004.

“It was emotional for all of us,” Cole said. “There was some watery eyes out there. It’s hard to put into words.

“What a special opportunity to share the field with this guy. He’s an unbelievable player, an unbelievable talent, an unbelievable human. He’s been our rock all year.”

Now that history has been celebrated, attention can turn towards the playoffs, where the Yankees hope more celebrating will follow the special night they shared in Texas on Tuesday.

“This is just the start of what is hopefully more magical moments to come as a team,” Boone said.

“We’re hoping to ride that.”

Designer Ryan Brooke Thomas’s bright, open apartment also embraces an open footprintWhen Ryan bought the apartment, its inside was broken up into smaller spaces. Upon seeing it she was immediately drawn to the natural light that came in through all sides of the apartment, which she wanted to maximize. “In spite of the small footprint, I saw an opportunity to open it up, to try to optimize the fact that there was natural light coming in from all sides,” she says. “How do you make those sources of light really feel connected to the space, instead of having something that’s broken up into tiny rooms? Open up the footprint as much as possible.
