The 13-year-old victim was walking home from her school bus stop on Feb. 16, 2016, when a group of masked men grabbed her and forced her into the trunk of their car, according to police. About 20 miles away, they tied her to a tree, beat her up and sexually assaulted her, then fled.

The girl walked a mile to the nearest house and had the homeowner call the police.

According to police, Garcia organized the kidnapping to scare the girl into moving to Sweden to live with her mother so Garcia could get back together with her father, the Fresno Bee previously reported.

Garcia and son Mark were charged with conspiring to commit a kidnapping for financial gain, torture and making threats to kill the victim in 2016.
