The film was set for a big event on January 11 to celebrate its opening next Friday, but that has been canceled due to concerns over the Omicron COVID-19 variant, Variety reported.

A note to the invited guests reportedly went out on Thursday informing them of the news.

Scream will still be released on Friday, January 14 as originally planned.

This latest addition to the Scream franchise takes place in Woodsboro, the town where the murders from the 1996 film happened. With a new killer wreaking havoc in the city, Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, tries to figure out who that person is.

Scream is also bringing former lovers back together. David Arquette talked about filming with his ex-wife Courteney Cox in the new movie.

'It’s a cathartic experience to just be able to act opposite Courteney,' he told The New York Times. 'It’s been 25 years of our lives. We’ve grown up together. We have a child together.'

The pair started dating in 1996 after meeting on the set of the original Scream movie. They married three years later. They divorced after 14 years of marriage in 2013.
