WaPo reporter slams White House for LYING about Naomi Biden's wedding

WaPo reporter slams White House for LYING about Naomi Biden's wedding Ashley Parker called out the White House for misleading reporters about who was allowed to cover the White House wedding of President Joe Biden's granddaughter, Naomi Biden.Ashley Parker said the White House's characterization about who in the press would be granted access to the White House wedding of Naomi Biden was akin to lies she heard the Trump administration tell during her coverage.

White House officials have shared few details about the wedding, and news media are barred from the event, prompting formal objections from the White House press corps.

The secrecy surrounding Naomi Biden’s wedding stands in contrast to the public fanfare in 1971, when then-President Richard Nixon’s daughter Tricia got married in the Rose Garden before 400 invited guests. Hundreds of journalists were accredited to cover the event, and televised coverage drew tens of millions of viewers.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called it a “family event” and said a photo and statement would be released after the ceremony.

“The wedding of Naomi Biden and Peter is a private one,” Jean-Pierre said at Friday’s press briefing. “Naomi and Peter have asked that their wedding be closed to the media, and we are respecting their wishes. This is something that the couple has decided.”

King Charles Reportedly ‘Deeply Regrets’ Making Prince William And Prince Harry Walk Behind Diana’s Coffin: ‘They’re Haunted’

King Charles Reportedly ‘Deeply Regrets’ Making Prince William And Prince Harry Walk Behind Diana’s Coffin: ‘They’re Haunted’ King Charles’ biggest regret in life, according to Christopher Andersen’s new book, The King: The Life of Charles III, was making Prince William and Prince Harry walk behind their late mother Princess Diana’s coffin during her funer al procession in 1997. The princes were just 15 and 12 years old respectively when their mother died, and according to Andersen, the moment is something that “haunts” both the King and his sons to this day. 1/17 SLIDES © Wikimedia Commons Solemn Wows The average American wedding costs more than $33,000.

Naomi Biden, 28, met her fiancé, Neal, 25, through mutual friends in 2018. Neal is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

Naomi Biden announced in April that the president and first lady had invited the couple to hold the ceremony at the White House. In a July tweet, she announced the South Lawn location, which she said came “much to the relief” of the Secret Service.

Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton excluded the press from wedding held at the White House as did former President George W. Bush. His daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, married in a private ceremony in Crawford, Texas, followed by a reception at the White House.

Naomi Biden’s wedding is “shaping up at this point to perhaps be more private than some of those former daughter weddings at the White House,” said historian Sarah Fling of the White House Historical Association.

Elizabeth Alexander, communications director for the first lady, said the Biden family will be paying for the wedding activities. Jean-Pierre assured reporters in July that “taxpayer dollars would not go” to the event.

Biden's granddaughter Naomi ties knot in White House wedding

Biden's granddaughter Naomi ties knot in White House wedding It's the first White House wedding with a president's granddaughter as the bride, and the first one ever on the South Lawn. Naomi Biden and Neal exchanged “I do's” during a nippy late-morning ceremony — temperatures were in the low 40s — in front of guests seated in white folding chairs. The South Portico of the White House, facing the lawn and the Washington Monument in the distance, was decorated with wreaths and garland bearing white flowers. There was no tent. Guests began arriving hours before the ceremony, with some women opting for open-toed shoes despite the chill.

Wedding guests were at the White House on Friday to get Covid tested. The Saturday ceremony will be at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the White House and an evening reception.

Fling said it will be the first wedding ceremony held on the South Lawn.

The president has said his family, including his eldest granddaughter, were instrumental in his decision to launch a White House bid in 2020 -- and that they are likely to play a role in determining whether he seeks a second term in 2024. Biden has said he intends to run, but will make a final decision early next year.

Biden said his granddaughter Naomi organized a family meeting after the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, to encourage him to run.

“I got a phone call from my eldest granddaughter who was then a junior at Columbia Law School -- and said, ‘Pop, we’d like to have a family meeting,’” Biden said at a fundraiser in June. “Pop, you’ve got to run. Daddy wants you to run,” he recalled her telling him.

Naomi Biden is the daughter of Hunter Biden, who is the subject of a federal tax probe and a top GOP target. House Republicans have vowed to investigate his business dealings, though the president’s son has denied any wrongdoing.
