Sport: 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo breaks record once held by Joe Montana, Colin Kaepernick

What the 49ers are saying after beating the Chargers

What the 49ers are saying after beating the Chargers The 49ers started the second half of their season strong Sunday night with a 22-16 comeback win over the Los Angeles Chargers. They are now 5-4, just one game behind the Seahawks for the NFC West lead. After allowing a quick score to open the game, the 49ers’ defense locked up Justin Herbert and the Chargers’ offense, allowing only 57 yards (and zero points) in the second half. Los Angeles entered the red zone twice in the first half after its initial strike, but walked away both times with only a field goal. The Niners, despite trailing throughout, stuck to their game plan and racked up 41 rushing attempts.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo made some San Francisco 49ers history in Monday night's 38-10 blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals.

According to Grant Gordon of the league's website, NFL Research pointed out that the 49ers are now 14-0 when Garoppolo doesn't throw an interception during a game. That's a new record for San Francisco quarterbacks and breaks a team mark once shared by Hall of Famer Joe Montana and Colin Kaepernick.

Why the 49ers have been unable to quit Daniel Brunskill, try as they might

Why the 49ers have been unable to quit Daniel Brunskill, try as they might AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The player the San Francisco 49ers keep trying to shove into the shadows was in the spotlight Sunday night. It’s rare for a right guard to get prime-time acclaim, but Daniel Brunskill earned it by pulling off a difficult block — what the 49ers call a “double bump” — on perhaps the biggest play of their 22-16 comeback win over the Chargers. Brunskill, 28, had the most challenging assignment on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s 24-yard, fourth-quarter pass to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk that set up running back Christian McCaffrey’s go-ahead 2-yard touchdown run on the next snap.

Garoppolo completed 20-of-29 pass attempts for 228 yards with four touchdowns and no picks against Arizona en route to leading San Francisco to a third-straight victory. The 6-4 49ers next host the 4-7 New Orleans Saints this coming Sunday.

Garoppolo surpassed Montana and Kaepernick in this particular category less than three full months after he agreed to a restructured contract and a reduction in pay to stay with the 49ers as the backup to starter Trey Lance. The 31-year-old resumed his starting duties when Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2, and individuals such as Tim Kawakami of The Athletic believe ahead of Thanksgiving Day that Garoppolo is playing well enough this fall to guide the 49ers to a Super Bowl title.

'Perfect storm' brewing for Browns to upset Bills in Week 11

'Perfect storm' brewing for Browns to upset Bills in Week 11 The Browns can take advantage of the multitude of outside distractions for the Bills, who are on a two-game losing streak after falling to the Jets and Vikings in back-to-back weeks. Browns TE David Njoku knows there is an opportunity to hand them their third straight loss. He took to Twitter in an attempt to recruit fans to make the trip to Detroit. #Dawgpound I NEED TO SEE YALL ACTIVE IN DETROIT!!! Let’s Go!!!— Chief David Njoku (@David_Njoku80) November 17, 2022 It is a tall task, but never say never. Will Cleveland pull off the trap game, or will Buffalo get back on track? We'll find out soon enough.

"His TD-to-INT ratio is an amazing 15-4," Kawakami wrote about Jimmy G's season. "And Garoppolo’s 1.5 percent interception rate is a career low."

Per ESPN stats, Garoppolo begins Week 12 fifth among qualified signal-callers with a 104.1 passer rating, tied for fourth with an average of 8.1 yards per pass attempt, and ninth with a 67.0% completion percentage on the campaign.
