The Alabama Crimson Tide have reportedly lost a former four-star recruit to the transfer portal this Wednesday afternoon.
Traeshon Holden, a 2020 Alabama commit, announced today that he plans to entering the portal immediately and thanked Crimson Tide coaches and staff for his time with the program.
After Alabama wideout Christian Leary announced his desire to transfer this morning, the Tide have now seen two of their top young receivers hit the portal on Wednesday.
"To the Alabama Family, I would like to thank coach Saban and the entire Alabama coaching staff for everything that you have done for me while I was a student-athlete here. Having said that, I would to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal effective immediately," Holden said in a statement Wednesday.
Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin addresses his future after Arkansas loss
Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin was once again asked to talk about his future and speculation linking him to the Auburn job.The questions came amid reports that he's the No. 1 candidate to fill the coaching vacancy at Auburn — a line some reporters have been repeating since Auburn moved on from Bryan Harsin on October 31.
Holden arrived on Alabama's campus in 2020 but did not play until his sophomore season the following year.
In that second year with the Tide, Holden played in 11 games and snagged 21 receptions for 239 yards, adding one receiving touchdown as well.
Looking to break out in his junior campaign, Holden actually began the 2022 season as a starter for Alabama but saw his role decrease as the year progressed.
After catching four touchdowns in the team's first five games, Holden followed up his strong start to the season by tallying 14, -5, and 20 yards receiving across Alabama's next three games, respectively.
Unfortunately for Holden, those consecutive poor performances led to his benching ahead of the Crimson Tide's late-season matchups with LSU and Ole Miss. He did, however, return for the team's final three games and recorded two touchdown grabs during that stretch.
Holden shouldn't have any trouble finding a new program that will prioritize him in their offensive system. The once highly-touted recruit is likely to garner looks from several Power Five schools in need of an outside threat at receiver.
We'll be on the lookout for any news surrounding Holden's next destination.
