Sport: Report: Seven-time Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams shut down trade to Vikings

Report: Winston 'isn't seen around the NFL as a starter'

Report: Winston 'isn't seen around the NFL as a starter' Although Winston led the league in passing yards last season, he also tossed 30 interceptions.Last season as Winston continued to struggle as the starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a report emerged indicating teams were souring on the idea that the former No. 1 overall pick was starting material.

Now here’s something interesting. Trent Williams, who has been fighting with Washington to get traded recently, reportedly shut down trade talks with the Minnesota Vikings.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Vikings were closing in on a deal for the seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle. That’s when Williams himself stopped the process, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

“At some point over the course of today, Williams made it known he would rather not go to the Minnesota Vikings,” Rapoport said Friday night. “Essentially, that ended the trade right there.”

There’s been talk about Williams potentially reuniting with Kyle Shanahan as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. However, the 49ers recently made it clear they believe Joe Staley will be returning in 2020, so that doesn’t make a ton of sense.

It’s somewhat puzzling that Williams would turn down an opportunity to play for a contender. However, when you realize the Vikings aren’t loaded with cap space and might not be willing to give Williams the type of contract he wants, the pieces fall into place.

Eagles and Jason Peters discussing possible return .
Nothing's been inked yet, but there seems to be growing sentiment that Jason Peters might stick around with the Eagles on a cheaper, shorter-term deal in order to chase another ring. The Eagles have left the door open for the nine-time Pro Bowler, but they still have other needs to consider this offseason. On the whole, they have solid flexibility for the 2020 salary cap, even though they’ve over-committed to spending for 2021. Next year’s books shouldn’t affect their consideration of Peters much – at his age, he’s probably not seeking, demanding, or expecting a multi-year deal.
