The biggest question, as we’ve now learned from experience, isn’t whether the local logistics can be arranged. It’s whether the final authorities will grant approval for whatever scheme is worked out. In this case, that means convincing the state of Maryland to permit another professional sports resident and, more importantly, to facilitate the flow of traffic of visiting teams to and from other states. That was the issue that gummed up the both of the Blue Jays’ prior schemes to play ball through the pandemic. Before formal approval is sought, the two teams still need to hammer out a means of hosting the Jays.

One of baseball’s top prospects, starter Nate Pearson of the Toronto Blue Jays, will make his major league debut tonight. Pearson is the Jays’ No. 1 ranked prospect and No. 10 across the league, according to MLB Pipeline. He and his triple-digit fastball and outstanding slider will face off against the Washington Nationals.
© Getty Images Pearson, a 28th round pick in the 2017 draft, has really only had one season’s worth of minor league experience — 123 total innings — due to injuries that sidelined him for almost all of the 2018 season. Last year, though, he showed that he is ready for the bigs. He made six starts at high-A Dunedin, going 3-0 while striking out 35 and walking only three in 21 innings. In 16 starts at Double-A New Hampshire he struck out 69 batters in 62.2 innings and posting a 2.59 ERA. He finally made three starts at Triple-A, allowing six runs in 18 innings and striking out 15.
TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays hope moving Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a different defensive position will help their second-year star produce more at the plate. Maybe even enough to boost the youthful Blue Jays into playoff contention. After making a team-high 17 errors in 96 games at third base as a rookie, Guerrero quietly started taking grounders at first before spring training was shut down. When the Blue Jays gathered again for summer camp, manager Charlie Montoyo said Guerrero would be focusing on first base, for the most part.“It’s all about a player having the best chance to compete,” Montoyo said.

Pearson’s first opponent: Max Scherzer. Who, I’m told, has some pretty good stuff as well.
