White Sox fill black hole at 2B with trade for Cesar Hernandez from Cleveland

White Sox fill black hole at 2B with trade for Cesar Hernandez from Cleveland The Chicago White Sox have found their second baseman after making a trade with Cleveland for Cesar Hernandez. After the season-ending injury to Nick Madrigal, second base has been the biggest, and perhaps, the lone weakness for the Chicago White Sox. Now, ahead of the MLB trade deadline, the White Sox hope they took a big step in strengthening that weakness with the trade of Cleveland's Cesar Hernandez. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the trade between the AL Central rivals on the eve of the trade deadline. It also puts to bed the pipe dream of trading for Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story.

The first-place Chicago White Sox were able to add a bat to the lineup before Friday's trade deadline and didn't have to give up anything in the process.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, the White Sox activated left fielder and designated hitter Eloy Jimenez off the injured list ahead of Monday's matchup against the Kansas City Royals. Jimenez suffered a ruptured left pectoral tendon while attempting to catch a ball during a March spring training game and has been sidelined since.

Suspect arrested in deadly movie theater shooting in Southern California

Suspect arrested in deadly movie theater shooting in Southern California Joseph Jimenez was booked on charges of murder, attempted murder, and robbery.Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested at his home in nearby El Cerrito on Tuesday night, the Corona Police Department said in a news release. Detectives located Jimenez after receiving witness statements, authorities said. They added that a firearm and additional evidence related to the crime scene were discovered during a search of the residence, and that the firearm matched the caliber of the weapon used in the murder.

In a corresponding roster move, Chicago optioned infielder Jake Burger to Triple-A Charlotte.

It's believed Jimenez will get most of his at-bats as Chicago's DH with rookie Andrew Vaughn patrolling left field. Over his first 177 career regular-season games, Jimenez crushed 45 home runs with 120 RBI, a .276 average and a .848 OPS.

The White Sox enter Monday evening with a commanding nine-game lead over the second-place Indians in the American League Central standings, and it's rumored Cleveland could be a seller rather than a buyer this week.
