Old Florida Keys bridge reopens to pedestrians, bicyclists

Old Florida Keys bridge reopens to pedestrians, bicyclists MARATHON, Fla. (AP) — A segment of a 110-year-old Florida Keys bridge is reopening to pedestrians and bicyclists on Wednesday following a $44 million restoration project. Rehabilitation construction on the oft-photographed 2.2-mile (3.5-km) span of the Old Seven Mile Bridge began in late 2017. “What made the project challenging was that it is a historic bridge, and we had to restore the bridge to the same aesthetic fabric as the original,” said project manager Tony Sabbag, a Florida Department of Transportation contractor. © Provided by Associated Press In this Monday, Jan.

January 26 (Reuters) - Operations of Rescue were under way on Tuesday off Florida to try to find 39 people missing after the sinking of their boat.

A survivor told the US authorities to leave Saturday night the Bimini Islands, the Bahamas, with 39 other people, indicated the coastguards in a statement published on Twitter.

the boat would have capsized because of the bad weather while it was about 70 km from Florida, halfway between Miami and Cape Canaveral, told the survivor, adding that none of the shipwrecked did not wear safety jacket.

A good Samaritan discovered the man hanging on the boat Tuesday morning and rescued him before contacting the coast guard. Boats and aircraft were then dispatched on site to search.

"We suspect a trafficking of human beings," wrote the coastguards in the statement. The nationality of the shipwrecked has not been unveiled.
