A stunning coaching departure took place on Thursday. Longtime Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston is reportedly leaving South Bend to join Harbaugh’s staff in Ann Arbor.
To make matters worse for Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish, Elston isn’t even getting a promotion at Michigan.
The defensive line coach had repeatedly sought after the defensive coordinator position at Notre Dame. He thought he’d get it on Freeman’s new staff, but the young head coach has gone a different direction. Elston is now heading to Michigan to get a fresh start.
Report: Jim Caldwell turns down interview requests from Vikings, Raiders
Jim Caldwell is viewed as a strong candidate to land a head-coaching position this offseason. His latest reported actions certainly seem to bear that out as well. © MCT Jim Caldwell Caldwell declined interview requests from the Las Vegas Raiders and Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano. This likely indicates that Caldwell expects to land one of the other available head-coaching positions, and he is reportedly in the mix for the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. Graziano believes the Bears may be the most likely landing spot for Caldwell. “[Mike] Elston was repeatedly passed over for the defensive coordinator role at ND, which is looking for a DC right now, too,” reports ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. “Could certainly see Ball State DC Tyler Stockton, a former Fighting Irish defensive lineman, being a good replacement for Elston.”

Notre Dame football to host Tennessee State, first-ever HBCU opponent, in 2023
The matchup will be a first for the Notre Dame program.Per Adam Rittenberg of ESPN, Tennessee State will be Notre Dame's first-ever Historically Black College and University opponent and also its first-ever FCS foe. The Tigers are currently coached by Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL running back Eddie George. Perhaps far more significant is the fact Elston’s departure from Notre Dame to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff is a clue that he’s staying in Ann Arbor.

The news about Hall entering the transfer portal comes a day after Hall was suspended by Bama for a violation of team rules. Hall entering the transfer portal seemed like a natural step after he was removed from the team’s online roster on Tuesday.Alabama coach Nick Saban indicated on Wednesday that Hall ran out of chances with the program. “Along with a couple of other things that have happened, this sends another strong signal Jim Harbaugh is staying at Michigan,” a fan commented.

Top QB prospect Arch Manning reportedly visited Virginia
Manning reportedly met with coach Tony Elliott and attended some meetings during the visit. Manning does have family ties at Virginia. His sister goes to school there, and his mother is a graduate. However, this does not sound like a family visit if he was meeting with the head coach.Elliott may be key to Manning’s visit. The new Virginia coach had been recruiting Manning when he was offensive coordinator at Clemson. That may have drawn Manning to take a visit.Virginia is still a clear long shot for Manning. “If Harbaugh is leaving, why is he still assembling staff at Michigan?,” one fan asked.

South Carolina's Spencer Rattler: Oklahoma situation was 'toxic' .
The situation was probably toxic for Rattler because he was benched, booed and the coach left. A fresh start definitely seemed like a good thing for him.Rattler told Low he felt comfortable with South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer, who previously was a Sooners assistant.
