the bottom line was that a good 500,000 more people moved to the United Kingdom in the twelve months to June, as the British Statistics Office announced ONS. The approximately 35,000 migrants who came to Great Britain illegally via the English Channel are not included. Overall, the United Kingdom has a good 67 million inhabitants. In addition, numerous international students returned after the end of the strict Corona rules. In the comparison period until June 2021, the net immigration was 173,000 people.

Most of the newcomers came from non-EU countries. On the other hand, many EU citizens continue to leave Great Britain because of the Brexit. An estimated 51,000 people from the EU lived less in the country. The conservative government had promised to significantly reduce immigration after Brexit.
